Penalty

I saw.

Seeing has been my most severe punishment over the years,

Ever since I first saw;

So I have been seeing all along.

Closing my eyes as I may

Makes the images clearer;

Even tears should not dim my sight

As my pupils give in to light.

I saw,

As I see today.

The pain grows,

              with the images gaining sharpness.

I reconsider the temptation of giving up my eyes;

every once in a while...
